  • I did not think this app could get worse

    By Admiral D
Nov 2019. I have been using this app since it came out and have been a subscriber for decades. The app was never good (see the WSJ app or the Economist apps for good apps) due to having an always updating list of articles, no way to see them in a publication order, and having them push articles for days and sometimes even weeks according to their whim, leaving it impossible to just check for, you know, NEW news. Add to that so many articles are not downloaded automatically and pictures rarely available and require an Internet connection even when listed on the top stories page, the app is just plain bad. But the real killer that pushed me from 3 to 1 stars is that there is unstoppable video previews of articles for the last few days, despite a setting to disable auto play of videos. I personally never want video, animated ads, or anything moving unless I directly do it. It is extra terrible because despite the app (and the iPhone and Android phone versions too, both of which I have and use) being atrocious, the news is actually good, when and if you can find articles to read.
  • Crashes upon opening

The app won’t start, it crashes immediately after I open it. Using iPhone 11
  • Clunky app

I cannot understand this new format The section icon takes so long to get on. Where is section of articles saved for later. This is not the full newspaper. Please revise for reader ease. Dr Hal Boyd
  • Latest version is terrible

    By swrfhyik85432
The Times finally forced me to upgrade to the latest version. I hate it. We can no longer select sections to appear every time we open the app. So we have to go to the sections menu over and over again each day. That wastes time and engenders anger. With newspapers dying nationwide, why would one of the leading papers make itself harder to read? Someone took their eye a long way off the ball.
  • Unworkable

    By Pang Yun
It's hard to imagine a worse way to access the important content of the NYT than this app. It takes multiple clicks to move around among the sections and content, with no obvious shortcuts. Any millennial could design a better interface. For dinosaurs like myself, with an embedded print metaphor, the app creates nothing but frustration. To add insult, the NYT obsoleted the perfectly excellent last generation app. If the company isn't going to redesign this app, at least return the last one.
  • Crashing

Latest version keeps crashing on iPhone X with latest iOS.
  • Please fix this app

    By rahhatesfacebook
It hasn’t worked in days. When you open the app, you get the NYT logo page but then it shuts down. I clicked on the support link, but that goes to a page with an HTTP 404 error. Very aggravating.
  • Great app, but lacks dark mode

    By blink_81
Great app, but the lack of dark mode support is really unfortunate. The white background is really straining on the eyes in longer reading sessions.
  • Congratulations! You’ve Wrecked It!

With the latest update, you no longer know, by looking at the front page, what day’s issue you are looking at or what time what you are looking at was last updated. A newspaper with no date, a digital newspaper with no time stamp. Additionally, graphics and videos now take longer to load than it takes to read the article. Videos never load. Read it on your phone, preferably an android phone. What a giant step back.
  • Animated ads distract while reading

    By Rowena Columbia
This could be a first-rate app. In many ways it’s perfect. I have to give it three stars instead of five because the animated ads are so distracting. For an app that’s primarily for reading, that’s a big design flaw. On my phone I can usually avoid them by scrolling up or down, but when reading on my iPad, there seems to always be movement I can’t escape, either at the top or bottom of my screen.
