  • Great app! Better customer service

Great app until the recent update. Crashed constantly, I tried uninstalling & reinstalling the application and still wouldn’t load. Contacted service and they were great at resolving my issue in a timely matter. My daughter loves this app and is only 20 months and learned to identify letters and colors. Everyday she says a new word! Definitely worth every penny.

Downloaded it and can only see the middle of the screen. Won’t turn on its side either. Oh well. Was looking forward to it.
  • Trash App with new design

I am so sad to write this review. HOMER used to be the best app on the market for learning to read. But their recent overhaul has changed it from pure treasure to total trash. It doesn’t save your child’s progress anymore nor does it have an easy to use path and learning system. My daughter (4 1/2) used to be able to run this herself when on road trips in the car. Now she has no idea where her next lesson is so she has to have an adult with her at all times. It’s not that I mind doing the app with her, but it’s frustrating that they made this LESS user friendly by a landslide. Praying they go back to the old system soon. Currently this is a complete waste of money.
  • Games take up too much time

I've been trying to sit down with my child to do these together but as soon as the "tell the story" activity comes up she spends all her time doing that. I understand the value of using pictures to guide her imagination and that story telling is a skill she should learn but she's not telling the story, she's just treating it like stickers and it's very distracting and time consuming. The drawing game too. If it would come up less often them it could be more of a reward for completing a module. As it stands this is just a waste of our time and I'm going to invest in other reading apps. Maybe if there was a time limit to these it would be better. Or give us some way to disable them. Also it bothers me that the instruction is so rigid about how to draw the letters. Maybe this is important for some reason unknown to me but I think there are multiple ways to draw letters and it is frustrating that she can't do it the way she knows how.

My daughter loves to learn and she loves how there is always different learning activities randomly. I’m happy to find something very simple to use as I am vision impaired and I require to use zoom to help her be able to use the app which that does get annoying if everything is all over the place and I need to read them but HOMER is so simple that I don’t need to have to read the activities. I recently downloaded this app earlier this morning and she was so obsessed with HOMER that she was learn for 2.5 hours willingly without getting bored of it.

Hello I used the free trial and was happy with it. However right after it charged my account the $7.99 it kicked me out and is now saying that I don’t have an account with you at all. I’d like my money back because all my sons progress is completely gone and I haven’t been able to log on since being charged.
  • Loved the old version. Hate the new one.

My child who turned 3 a month ago has been using Homer for 4 months. She has learned a great deal and we love the stories. However the app update has not been user friendly for us. It’s difficult for her to operate on her own and I usually spend her media time helping her. Which is not the worst thing but often defeats the reason I give her the iPad. We can’t locate some of her favorite stories and the app itself often freezes now. We will be canceling our membership and trying Abcmouse.
  • Absolutely useless

Completely unintuitive, my child just wanted to use the drawing pictures part. I've just wasted my money because I forgot to turn it off because it was so completely useless I forget it existed.
  • Good balance

It seems to be a great balance between work and free play for the younger readers. Not so grueling that they become bored or oppositional, and not so playful that they glean little from it. Glad we tried it, and while I don’t expect to renew it forever, it’s especially nice to have over summer break!
